Unfortunately, due to bureaucratic red tape and governmental apathy and indifference, most of these centers have restricted working hours, need for prior appointment and rude staff whose attitude leaves a lot to be desired.
Hence, many enterprising private doctors have been providing this vaccination to people needing the yellow fever vaccine. This vaccine is called STAMARIL (manufactured by Sanofi Aventis at France) and imported under license of Drug Controller Authority of India.
When provided along with the WHO International Certificate of Vaccination, the vaccination is internationally accepted with a validity of 10 years.
All information provided by Dr Gaurav Gupta, MD, Charak Clinics. Stamaril, Yellow Fever Vaccine is available at Charak Clinics, Chandigarh, North India for all travelers to Endemic Countries in Africa / Central & South America with WHO certificate of vaccination valid for 10 years. For details write to us at drgaurav-at-charakclinics.com (rjavascript:void(0)eplace -at- by @) or call at 91-172-5092585, 91-9872303775 during Office Hours.
I went to the Health Organization, Palam Airport and I was treated like a was a street dog. They are always in a bad mood. i gave up because i felt like those people are not prepared to be there and i was afraid to take the vaccine.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your bad experience, but this is unfortunately true for many government services in our country.
DeleteThe good news is that you can get the vaccine in a very welcoming and comfortable environs of Charak clinics, at Chandigarh, on a daily basis (except Sundays).
Just let us know if you still need the vaccine.
Warm regards
do you know of any private doctors who give the vaccination in Mumbai???
DeleteWell, I am not aware of any clinic doing this in an authorized way in Mumbai, except for the government centers.
DeleteWe at TravelSafe Clinic are looking to expand our operations and Mumbai appears a very likely choice, so keep watching our blog for more information :)
In the meanwhile, you can consider flying to Delhi for the vaccination at our NOIDA center, or to Chandigarh, both well connected with mumbai.
Warm regards
Dear Dr. Gaurav please inform me about the yellow fever vaccination center in Kanpur, UP. Or I have to go all the way to Lucknow for the same
DeleteBalrampur Hospital Lucknow is the closest location according to the information available with me,
DeletePlease check if it is available there though, since there appears to be a shortage in many government centers,
Our Delhi center would be a good place to go in case of any problems,

Everyone my friend called in Delhi was rude or told me to call numbers that didn't exist? Need a YF vaccine ASAP. DO you know who we can call or where she can go in Delhi?
ReplyDeleteDear Courtney,
DeleteThis remains an unfortunate fact of life in India (& many developing countries)..
The government employees think that they are doing an enormous favor by doing their job.
I am not aware of private centers in Delhi, but I am certainly available on all weekdays in Chandigarh, which is a well connected & comfortable 3 hour train journey, or a 30 minutes flight from the Capital.
If you want to come here, please let me know, we will do the vaccination within minutes, and you can be on your way back ASAP,

I had to spend time and driving to find the exact location of vaccination centre.Like to share it with others who are looking for Yellow fever vaccination at APHO (Airport Health Organisation)New Delhi, on Tuesday and Thursday,
ReplyDeleteTo locate it,
From national highway or From Gurgaon, drive towards IG International Airport terminal 3(For ease of understanding please note that this is road on other side of flyover opposite to Raddison hotel). As you drive towards terminal 3, you will find on left the Toll booths, contnue to drive and take a U-turn (return side), as you drive slowly towards entry to NH Flyover, just before the entry on left hand side, there is board of vaccination center and a high building with name board of APHO, the road on left is not the proper Tar Road but leads you to vaccination center. They ask you to come for registration between 10 AM and 12 PM and for vaccination at 2PM.Hope, this helps.
Chandra
Thanks Chandra,
ReplyDeleteI am sure that the information would be useful to the many visitors on this blog.

I am unaware of any such center in Tirupati,

Information on Chennai is provided in the previous reply,

Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteI need to get vaccination for my kid. He is exactly one year now. Is there any problem for his vaccination or I can go ahead.
waiting for your valuable information
You can certainly take the vaccination at 1 year age. There is no problem.
DeleteIn fact above the age of 1 year this vaccine becomes mandatory.

Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteYesterdar, I along with my family and friends went for yellow fever vaccination. For being vegetarian they did egg allergy test for all of us before vaccination. One friend from our group found allergic to egg in that test and denied for yellow fever vaccination. We have already booked everything to travel to Kenya and South Africa.
PLEASE ADVICE ME TO OVER COME THIS SITUATION.
Thanks & Regards
Lalit Jain
Doing egg allergy testing is NOT recommended for vegetarians routinely, and I would not have done it.
DeleteHere is my post that discusses the same issue,
http://yellowfevervaccine.blogspot.in/2011/08/can-people-with-egg-allergy-take-yellow.html
Now given that the test has been done, and the person found ? allergic, there are two options,
1. He can ask the doctor who has done the test to give a certificate saying that the person is allergic to egg and hence the vaccination is not being given,
2. He can take the vaccination after discussing this with the doctor, in a hospital based setting.
I would recommend that the first option is easier to do, and you can ask carry the original allergy testing report and the doctor's certificate during immigration.
Warm regards
Dr Gupta
Thanks Doctor
ReplyDeleteAre there are any private clinics or doctors in Mumbai area who can provide the certificate?
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I am not aware of any such centers, since the private centers are not advertised online, and there is no directory for the same.
DeleteThere is a direct flight from Mumbai to Chandigarh though ;)
:) haha thanks doc. If only! I could have enjoyed a nice holiday in Chandigarh. This vaccine is playing very hard to get!
ReplyDeleteI had Yellow fever Vaccination in December 2010 in Delhi RML hospital. But lost my vaccination certificate recently. i live in chennai. Is it necessary to have vaccination again to get a new certificate? Does it have any side effects? or can i have certificate issued in chennai by declaring about my last vaccination? Please Reply. Thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteYou would probably have to take the vaccination again, as no other center has the authority to issue a Duplicate Certificate. If you know the exact date, or have a photocopy, you could try requesting the RML hospital, but that may prove difficult.
ReplyDeleteThere is unlikely to be any side-effect of taking an extra dose.
Do you know of any private dr's in Pune that offer the yf vaccine with certificate or how I can find this information?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I assume that there are no easily available private centers in Pune who do this, since I keep on getting calls from Pune regarding yellow fever vaccinations.
DeleteThe closest center would be mumbai, and that is a government one,
regards
Dr Gupta
Apparently BJ medical college, Preventive & Social Medicine Center may be offering this vaccination in Pune, you can try to find out and post your results on this blog for the benefits of others,
DeleteRegards
Are there any centres for yellow fever vaccination in Jaipur (Rajasthan)?
ReplyDeleteThanks and Regards,
I am unaware of any recognized center in Jaipur.
DeleteThere is a direct train & now even a flight from Jaipur to Chandigarh though :)
So if you can make a trip to Chandigarh, i can certainly do the needful.
The closest center otherwise would be IGIA, New Delhi.
Doctor , Is there any centre in Coimbatore for YF vaccination with cert ?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am unaware of any official YF vaccination center in Coimbatore,
Hello, I am travelling from UK but have a Kenyan Passport. I havent been to Kenya for the past 5 years since i came here. I am travelling end of this month, and i came to know that yellow fever vaccination is a necessecity? If i dont have it, will i be refused entry into India?
ReplyDeleteI dont want to take the vaccine as it has non veg element in it, and am not prepared to let my cultural values down and vest those elements in my blood stream.
Please let me know soon mr Gupta.
Thanks
I appreciate your concerns regarding vegetarianism.
DeleteFor starters, if you are flying in straight from UK, you should NOT need the YF vaccine.
However, I am surprised that you were not asked to take the vaccine when you flew out of Kenya 5 years ago.
Coming to your point regarding vegetarianism,
Well, they don't actually contain meat and egg as an actual ingredient, however animals and their products are involved in the production of vaccines, for example many vaccines are cultured in fertilized chicken eggs. Viral vaccines must be grown in cells. Eggs are commonly used, but some viruses must be grown in human cells. Those cells are grown in media supplemented with bovine serum. A porcine enzyme is also used.
But this should not prevent you from having any required vaccines; being a vegetarian or vegan is about reasonably minimizing your contribution to animal suffering. Refusing necessary medication/vaccines isn't reasonable. Denying youself life potentially life saving vaccines is neither resonable nor practical.
The amounts that may theoretically enter your body are so minute that you are likely to not even be affected even if you have a mild to moderate allergy to egg/ non veg foods. You are much more likely to ingest larger quantities when eating outside - even with veg foods.
So my take is that take the vaccines as & when needed, and remain vegetarian for life - it's healthier that way :)
Thankyou Dr Gupta for your very prompt reply. Is there any autority in India delaing with the vaccine i can call and follow up to confirm your statement.
ReplyDelete'For starters, if you are flying in straight from UK, you should NOT need the YF vaccine.'
I thought so too because i have been here in UK since 2006 and never have travelled back to Kenya or any other country listed under the yellow fever endemic areas.
Even then, I also have recently been naturalised as a British Citizen, only that i donot have a passport yet. So technically i am semi-British now hence you are right about travel from Uk. But its really best for me to find out for sure, as i know how people are on Indian Airports, they see a foreigner and some officers do all possible to get some money out of them...shame but a fact.
I have had all other required travel vaccines long before i had such a concern as in my first post.
Thankyou
The 'authorities' would be the Govt of India, and I do believe that it would be extremely difficult to find someone to actually answer that query .... PLUS no guarantee that the immigration people would actually take your word for it....
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the "fleecing the foreigner part" unfortunate but true.
My practical advise would be to take the vaccine if you are planning to visit Africa/ South America in the near future, so that you do not remain tense all the way from UK to India :) , PLUS it remains valid for 10 years.
Finally, most of the viral vaccines do have some component of animal protein so your travel vaccines have already provided you with some animal protein in your body .....
To be honest, the organization has done you a disfavor here. They are most likely NOT authorized to give the vaccine, since they need to issue a WHO International Certificate of Vaccination which is the accepted document for YF vaccination.
ReplyDeleteSo the answer to your question is NO this document and 'certificate' is not likely to be valid.
You are likely to require the vaccine again, since no govt organization will issue a duplicate card on the basis of this vaccination.
There are unlikely to be any side-effects of the same.
Regards
Dr Gupta
PS: I know this is a bit far, but if you could make it to Chandigarh, we could try to assist ....
Just to inform everyone accessing this page,

ReplyDeleteThanks for contacting us.
DeleteThe travelsafe clinic at Chandigarh is approved by the vaccine manufacturer for giving the Yellow Fever vaccination. The certificate provided is the WHO International certificate of vaccination that is valid through out the world for 10 years.
The charges are 2800/- and this includes all charges including consultation & certification.
It just takes 10 minutes, and then you are free to go,
Hello Doc.
ReplyDeleteI read your blog and comments. It's good that I finally gathered the right info about this yellow fever thing.
Request you to please clarify a query of mine.
How soon can I travel to Gaborone, Botswana after getting yellow fever vaccine provided that the certificate becomes valid after 10 days and I'll be flying through Nairobi, Kenya?
Thanks
Thanks, for the kind words.
DeleteI am not sure I understand the question fully, but you can fly to any place that is endemic for Yellow Fever, preferably 10 days after taking the vaccination to avoid any trouble at Immigration.
The NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation) government website states that taking the vaccination even a week before travel is acceptable, but I would like to keep the exact margin of safety.
So in short, you should preferably land in another country 10 days after getting the vaccine,
Regards
Thanks for the reply, actually I'm required to travel to Botswana day after tomorrow but I still haven't got the yellow fever vaccine. I'm planning to get it tomorrow. That's why I asked how soon will travel be possible.
DeleteWhat do you suggest in this case? Is it like that I'll be quarantined for 6 days (as the rule says), if I show them the certificate which I've just got the day before?
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOk,
DeleteThanks for the clarification.
You can get the vaccination done as soon as feasible.
You 'may' get stuck at Immigration, though in our experience this is quite rare.
Generally speaking, if you have the certificate, and are coming back to India after a minimum of 10 days after vaccination, you are not likely to face a problem.
Of course, this does not mean that you cannot be singled out by Immigration, or put in quarantine for 6 days,
I hope that I have made it clear?
Finally, do remember that you will not be protected against Yellow Fever disease, till at least 10 days after you have taken the vaccination,
Thanks a lot for much needed clarification. I'm really very grateful for providing such an information. I've got my YF certificate today and most likely I'll be travelling tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing which I want to share and appreciate is the route details given by Mr. Chandra in the comments on 23rd Feb 2012. Thank you very much. It just helped me find my way without any difficulty.
Thanks,
Prabhat
You are most welcome.
DeleteFor travelers who want to get the vaccination done on any other day, or without having to take prior appointment/ waiting, they can certainly check out our location at the NOIDA, NCR center. Google map is attached for easy directions too...

is there any time limit for being vaccinated at chandigarh?
ReplyDeleteif so plzz let me know..
Timings in Chandigarh are as follows
Delete9:30 Am to 1:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM,
SUNDAY CLOSED
What are your charges Doctor Gupta
ReplyDeleteRs. 2800/- per dose
DeleteWhat are your charges for YF Vaccination
ReplyDeleteDear Dr.Gupta,
ReplyDeleteYour blog site is very useful.A FAQ,well explained, might be even better.
Is the Pune Centre at BJ Medical College in operation? The Times Of India did carry a news item saying a center for YF Vaccination was now operational in Pune and one need not go to Mumbai. But, they did not give details of the location.
Will check it myself, soon; since my YF Certificate has lapsed after 10 years and I need to renew for my likely travel.
P.K.Sinha
Appreciate your feedback,
DeleteTo the best of my knowledge the Pune center is not functional yet, but I would be happy to get information regarding the same from some local source in Pune.
I went to B J Medical College / Deptt of Preventive & Social Medicine, and met the HOD.They are still in the process of obtaining approvals and then will follow the set-up and are looking at getting their personnel trained suitably. All this , knowing bureaucratic methods, will take a few months if not a year. HOD himself, seemingly, had very little clue about the YF.
ReplyDeleteLet no one go to a wrong place and waste time. Pune/Maharashtra people should go to either Port Health Centre at Ballard Estate,Fort OR A/Port Health Centre. Besides, these places cater to only limited number of people in a day. Be there early and register to avoid delays/disappointments. Timing at Fort 10.00am to 1.00 pm Mon-Friday. Documents : Passport & Travel Ticket.
P.K.Sinha
Thank you Pradeep,
DeleteI am sure this would be very useful to all travelers from Pune & surrounding areas.
Hi Dr.Gupta,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is really useful. I need to get a Yellow Fever vaccination certification for traveling to Nigeria and Kenya. Does the certification provided by your Clinic make me eligible to travel to these countries or is it compulsory to have the certificate from a Government health centre?
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Amit.
Yes, Our certificate would make you eligible to travel to Nigeria & Kenya, since the certificate provided by TravelSafe Clinic is the International Certificate of Vaccination (by WHO) that is valid for 10 years in over 200 countries around the World
DeleteWhat are the options available in Calicut, Kerala.
ReplyDeleteI want the yellow fever vaccination asap, but I am not getting any information here, please help
I do not believe that there is any approved center in Kerala, but I would be happy to have other people let is know if this has changed.
DeleteI would again reiterate that for a large number of people getting vaccinated simultaneously, TravelSafe Clinic can arrange for vaccination at any place in India.
Dear Dr. Gupta,
ReplyDeleteKindly let me know if there is any Govt. recognized Yellow Fever Vaccination Center in Bhubaneswar (Orrisa) or Rajasthan?
Thanks in Advance
No,
DeleteI am not aware of any authorized clinic in Orissa,
Kolkata would probably be the closest, though the vaccination was in short supply there ....
Check before going there.
Or else come to Delhi :)
Hello Dr Gaurav ,
ReplyDeleteI am from Mangalore (Karnataka). We are a group of 10 people who need to get the Yellow Fever Vaccination as we are supposed to travel to Brazil. Is it possible to arrange for the vaccination medicine and a doctor who can travel to mangalore and vaccinate all of us in one go instead of we guys travelling to other cities for the same. If possible then also let us know the expenditure for the same as well.

Ashutosh
Dear Ashutosh,

Hello Doctor,
ReplyDeleteI m from Kanpur and have plans to visit Africa in next 10 days.
For Required yellow fever vaccination, I called to Balrampur hospital Lucknow.
They do not have vaccine but they suggest to take vaccine from market and they are ready to provide certificate.
1. Is it ok,
2. If yes, how can i check the authenticity of vaccine purchase from market.
Pl revert at the earliest.
Thanks
Regards
I would recommend taking this vaccine from a center that is recognized and has the vaccine in stock,
DeleteOtherwise since I am not aware of genuine vaccine suppliers in that region, i would recommend asking them for a reference.
We have a center in Delhi that would be able to provide the vaccination,
Warm regards

Hello Dr Gupta,
ReplyDeleteYour website is very helpful, but I was wondering if you had the actual address for the World Health Organization in Panaji, Goa? I've looked it up on the internet a number of times, but not found any information other than what is here.I'm flying to Kenya soon so would appreciate any help.
Many thanks,
Kirsty
To the best of my knowledge there is only the government center that is mentioned in the post above,
DeleteGoa: Urban Health Organization, Panaji.
Regards
Dear Kirsty,
ReplyDeleteThere are no WHO / authorized vaccination center for Yellow Fever vaccination in Goa.
Mumbai has a couple, but since govt centers can be difficult to access, I would suggest flying to Delhi to get it at our center :)
There is a WHO authorized vaccination center in Goa, I know this as my freind lives in Goa and had got vaccinated from Goa only.
DeleteDear Dr Gupta,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your swift reply. Oh - it says on the website Goa: Urban Health Organization, Panaji. I spelt it wrong, but I presume it's still the same. Hmp - I came here especially!
Ok, well Delhi it is then, the address in Noida? We hope to be there around the 30th Nov - first few days of December.
Thanks,
Kirsty
Apologize for the delay, busy with Diwali celebrations :)

Dear Dr. Gupta,
ReplyDeleteI plan to travel to Congo in the first week of December and need to get the Yellow fever vaccination. I have tried to locate a centre here in jodhpur(my home town) in rajasthan but I dont think there is any centre here. So, I guess the nearest available centre would be Delhi/Noida for me. But I have a few queries:
Do I need to have a valid visa and air tickets with me in order to get a vaccine ?
Do I need to make a prior booking for the vaccine before comeing to Delhi ?
Also, is it a necessity that the vaccinaton be done atleast 10 days before the travel date?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Mahipal Choudhary
Thanks for contacting us Mahipal,

Do I need to make a prior booking for the vaccine before comeing to Delhi ?
NOT ESSENTIAL, but do check for our availability, call at 09810806594 for Delhi clinic appointment
Also, is it a necessity that the vaccinaton be done atleast 10 days before the travel date?
YES this is the preferred time frame for the vaccination,

Hello Sir,
ReplyDeleteI need to get vaccination for my kid. He is 4 month now. Is there any problem for his vaccination or I can go ahead.
Regards,
You CANNOT take Yellow Fever vaccination for a child less than 6 months age. It can be potentially harmful to a younger child.
DeleteNo country will ask for the immunization card for a 4 month old baby, so do not worry about this,
Regards
Dear Sir,
DeleteAlso I wanted to know whether yellow fever vaccination would be required for a breastfeeding woman or not.
Regards,
Hi,
DeleteBreastfeeding is a precaution to yellow fever vaccination, and women should be cautioned to avoid this vaccination while breastfeeding. Since risk exists and there are many gaps in knowledge, breastfeeding mothers should be discouraged from traveling to yellow fever–endemic areas. However, if travel to a yellow fever–endemic area cannot be avoided or postponed, then the mother should be vaccinated.
Are there any centers for yellow fever vaccinations in West Bengal? Probably at Jaigoan or Siliguri? Tshewang Nidup
ReplyDeleteKolkata has the Govt center for vaccination.
DeleteWe do not have any center in the far east.
If there are a large number of people wanting the vaccination, we could provide the vaccination at your place, once additional transportation and administration charges are paid,
Regards
Dear Doctor,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind response. could you kindly give me the contact info at Kolkata? I am from Bhutan, would you think they will vaccinate a non national?

For travel across(to/from) India and South Africa(Johannesburg), should some body get vaccinated for Yellow Fever.
ReplyDeletePeople traveling DIRECTLY to South Africa from India do NOT need YF vaccine,
DeleteHowever many people transit in Ethiopia or some other African country, and in this situation YF vaccine is needed.
Please talk to your travel agent/ embassy so that you do not get into trouble at immigration.
Let us know if you are still in doubt,
Take the vaccine in case of doubt, since it is valid for 10 years, and is remarkably free of serious side-effects,

Dear Vivek,

ReplyDeleteHi i want to know if i was cheated.i got the Yellow Fever Vaccination from Marmugao Port Health Organization.I had to pay 300 RS.Ther were more than 20 people for the vaccination on that day.I found this info from on line.
ReplyDelete[The cost of the vaccination is Rs. 1000+.........but the amount is split
according to the numbers of receivers in a particular day.
pls carry your passport with u, it is mandatory.........validity for the
vaccination is 10yrs.]
The doctor was very nervous when i asked him for the receipt.
Nope,
DeleteThe information that you got online is not correct.
The charges are fixed by the government and are approximately Rs. 300/- to Rs. 500/- for most government centers.
It is NOT variable depending on the number of people being vaccinated on a particular day. The government vaccine vial is a multi-dose vial containing 10 doses, so 10 people (at most) can be given the vaccination using one vial. They are normally called in batches of 10, and different government centers have varying policies regarding maximum number of people that can be vaccinated on a given day. Everyone is charged the same amount.
Hi iam writing from Bangalore. I wanted to get the yellow fever vaccine but the Public Health Institute kept telling me that there is no stock from the past 3 weeks. I have got the vaccine from a pharmacist but there is no WHO certificate attached with it. I wanted to know if i can take this vaccine to the PHI and get it administered and have the certificate issued to me or can any doctor administer and give me a letter mentioning that i was administered a yellow fever vaccine. Iam confused. Thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteYes,
DeleteI have heard of a shortage of the vaccine in many government centers.
The government center will NOT vaccinate you with a vaccine procured from outside.
An unauthorized doctor cannot vaccinate you, since without the certificate the vaccination is useless.
My recommendation, come to Delhi/ Chandigarh & take it with us :)
regards
Thank you Mr. Gupta for posting this wonderful information. You are doing superb job.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any idea about YF vaccine authorised center at Ahmedabad, Gujarat? I tried contacting all the government hospitals but they are saying that stock is not available at present. Will you please assist further from where we can get YF vaccine, any surrouding area?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Rakesh
Dear Rakesh,
DeleteI am unaware of any centers in Gujarat in the private domain.
We have adequate stocks, at Delhi / Chandigarh at present, & I would request you to consider traveling to these places for the vaccine if the same is not available in Ahmedabad.
Hello doctor,
ReplyDeletenow-a days in the south India I didnt get the vaccination. They told several times that there is no stock. I am in Uganda but for my wife
and my son I am trying several times. Is there any other way to get
the vaccination in Chennai or near by area as she cant move alone to
north India she is waiting for the yellow fever for the past 2 months.
Where can we get the booklet for yellow fever vaccination? can you advice on this?
Yes,
DeleteThere is a shortage of vaccine in the Govt sector.
I would request your wife to travel to Delhi & get the vaccination at our center. This will take just 10 minutes!
If that is not possible, I could send someone across, but that would increase the cost of vaccinating them.
We will provide the appropriate booklet along with the vaccination.
Regards
Dr Gupta
